Helena, Montana (Oct. 3-5)
Now from big city to Helena, Montana my second time this year. I was invited this time to take part in the Youth in Transition Conference. It felt great to come back to the fresh air and friendly hospitality of the Montanans (If that’s how it’s pronounced). I was happy to see some familiar faces from M.Y.L.F (pronounced My Life not MILFJ). A cool experience I had was hanging out with Mike Beers and his girlfriend Mary. I got to know them from the M.Y.L.F conference this past summer we also linked up with another Youth Leader named Flynt who is deaf. An accomplishment that I am proud to share was that I was able to Flynt to give a speech in front of an Audience. It all started earlier that day, Flynt was in a panel discussion with some other Youth that recently transitioned from High School and he insisted on using an interpreter to speak for him. Thing is, I know Flynt can speak and he speaks well. Yes, he has a speech impediment but not that bad. He was just extremely shy and self conscious of his voice. That night I was able to convince him to make a speech about himself and his passion to build furniture. So the next day before giving my speech I introduced Flynt to the audience and he came up and shared his story with his voice in front of over 100 people. He had never spoken to audience before and I am proud to have shared that experience with Flynt. Thank you for stepping out of your comfort zone and allowing yourself to do that.
Montana is always a great place to visit and I hope to come back again soon.
